A study conducted in Kyrgyzstan analyzed the incidence of whooping cough among children under 14 years old from 2014 to 2024. The results of the work by M. K. Uralieva and K. A. Nogoybaeva were published in the journal "Healthcare of Kyrgyzstan."

The authors note that despite successful vaccination campaigns, outbreaks of whooping cough are observed worldwide, and Kyrgyzstan is no exception. Over the past three years, the incidence of whooping cough in the country has increased, prompting the study of this phenomenon.

The main goal of the research was to analyze the incidence of whooping cough among children under 14 years old by regions of the country during the specified period.

According to the authors, Kyrgyzstan can be divided into three zones based on the level of whooping cough incidence:

Over the past ten years, three outbreaks of whooping cough have been recorded in the country: in 2015, 2018, and 2024. The latest wave of the disease turned out to be the most severe, which may be related to the increase in the number of unimmunized children and the decrease in post-vaccination immunity.

The authors emphasize that "epidemic heterogeneity requires a deeper analysis of the epidemiological control system and risk factors in different regions. The increase in incidence in 2022-2024 highlights the need for molecular analysis of the pathogen to determine its correspondence to vaccine strains," the researchers concluded.
