According to Deputy Daniyar Tolonov, 385 houses in the rural district of Savay in the Kara-Suu region have become uninhabitable due to rising water levels.

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh held on February 4, he reported that the water at the border between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan has been rising since 1985. Drainage systems were built in 1988; however, to this day they are clogged and non-functional, which has resulted in residents of the villages of Kyzyl-Shak, Ken-Sai, Kydyrsha, Kurban-Kara, and Kesken-Sai being unable to live in their homes.

“630 hectares of agricultural land have turned into swamps overgrown with reeds. Despite this, local residents continue to pay land taxes. It is necessary to construct drainage systems and drain the areas so that people can resume farming. An investment of 500 million soms could allow for the production of goods,” emphasized Tolonov.

He urged the cabinet of ministers to either engage in the construction of drainage systems or provide citizens with land plots in other locations; otherwise, they should be exempted from paying taxes.
