It is reported that the administration of Donald Trump is considering lifting restrictions on international humanitarian aid for North Korea, according to information from The Wall Street Journal.

This decision concerns the unblocking of exceptions within the sanctions regime established by the UN Security Council Committee on North Korea. Over the past few months, the United States has suspended the issuance of permits, fearing that humanitarian supplies could be misused. However, the publication claims that Washington is ready to lift these restrictions, which would open new opportunities for international aid.

Interestingly, this decision has become possible against the backdrop of Kim Jong Un's strengthening position, as he establishes ties with Russia and China. At the same time, the newspaper emphasizes that restoring approval for humanitarian aid does not guarantee an improvement in relations between Pyongyang and Washington.

According to WSJ, in recent years, Kim Jong Un has shown little interest in dialogue with the United States or South Korea, despite Trump's initiatives and the recent election of Yoon Suk-yeol as president of South Korea, who insists on the need to improve inter-Korean relations.

It is worth noting that in 2024, North Korea rejected international aid despite the consequences of widespread flooding that left many people homeless.
