The Kogomkul Sports Palace is not just a sports complex, but also an important architectural monument for Bishkek. However, this building has long been in need of serious renovations.

In this regard, the city administration has taken the matter of its renewal seriously.

Brief History of the Building

The design of the Sports Palace began in 1941, when architects V. Marukov and N. Kostin from the "Soyuzsportproject" institute developed its concept. However, due to historical circumstances, construction did not take place at that time, and the building was only opened in 1974 under the name of the Sports Palace named after V. I. Lenin. Here’s what it looked like then:

In 1993, the swimming pool of this complex was leased. For some time it operated, but soon fell into disrepair and was deemed unsafe. As a result, it briefly became a venue for roller skating, which caused dissatisfaction among local residents who considered it disrespectful to sports and to the building itself.

Ultimately, the structure of the swimming pool collapsed, and now only a vacant lot remains in its place.

“First of all, it is necessary to resolve the issue of transferring the building. Work on the project will begin in the spring. As soon as we learn the details of the renovation, we will definitely share this information,” the Bishkek city hall reported.
