According to the publication, the restrictions will take effect from February 10. One of RBC's sources confirmed that the measures are already being implemented.
Since February 9, the number of complaints about disruptions in Telegram's operation has increased to more than 11,000, according to data from the Downdetector service.
In October, Roskomnadzor had already reported partial restrictions on the operation of Telegram and WhatsApp in an effort to combat fraud. In January, Andrey Svintsov, a member of the State Duma's committee on information policy, expressed dissatisfaction that the messenger "blocks anonymous channels too slowly," but assured that a complete ban is not anticipated.
“There are anonymous channels on Telegram that spread false information and distort facts. It seems that their blocking in Russia is not happening as quickly as one would like,” noted Svintsov.
