To prevent child abandonment, a resource center called "Эне уйу" — "Home of Mom" was launched in Bishkek, supported by the construction company "Нурзаман." The main goal of this center is to keep children in families and provide assistance to their mothers.
At the opening ceremony, Deputy Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Zhyldyz Taalaibek kyzy, noted that the legislative body is ready to support mothers and children and emphasized the importance of such a project for Kyrgyzstan. Deputy Minister of Labor Ainura Orozbaeva expressed hope that the center would become a place where women can find support, knowledge, and self-confidence.
The center provides temporary free housing, psychological support, and training in professions such as cooking, sewing, or beauty salon skills. Mothers can stay at the center for three to twelve months, depending on their circumstances. Rooms accommodate two to three women, and all conditions for comfortable living are provided.
Among the stories shared at the center, one woman had already managed to give her newborn to an orphanage because she was afraid she couldn't feed him — she already had one child, and resources were scarce. Thanks to the intervention of the center's staff, mother and child were reunited. Over seven months, the woman restored her health, mastered two professions, and is now ready to live independently.
Kuduret Kaariyev, co-founder of the company, noted that the decision to support the project was made after analyzing its results.
“We were looking for effective ways to help and saw the real results of the project. In Kazakhstan, over 12 years, the number of children in orphanages decreased from 10,000 to 4,700, and the number of children in baby homes dropped from 1,500 to 372. Helping a child stay with their mother means giving them a chance for a full life. This is an important step in preventing orphanhood,” he emphasized.
Why This Matters
Despite the existence of a system of orphanages and boarding schools, preventing orphanhood remains the most reliable solution to this problem. In many cases, children end up in institutions not because they lack parents, but because their mothers do not receive timely support.
"Эне уйу".
"Currently, there are over 10,000 children in orphanages and boarding schools in Kyrgyzstan. Of these, only 5% have no parents; the rest do," said Nazgul Turdubekova, director of the branch of the international project "Home of Mom" in Kyrgyzstan.
Creating such centers not only addresses the consequences but also tackles the root causes of the problem — poverty, social isolation, psychological trauma, and lack of support.
If even one child stays with their mother, it already changes their fate. This confirms the importance of the existence of such projects.
