The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan will introduce a 9% commission for pilgrims

This will help increase the salaries of imams.

The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan has announced the introduction of a 9% commission for citizens performing Umrah. This decision was the result of discussions with community representatives and is aimed at raising the salaries of imams, as reported by the Spiritual Administration.

The muftiate noted that the issue of financing religious institutions was raised at the People's Kurultai in December 2024. However, due to the secular status of the state, the budget does not allocate funds for these needs. As a result, the Spiritual Administration concluded that it is necessary to form a fund from internal resources, despite attempts to find external sources of support.

Clerics emphasized that in the regions, apart from Bishkek and Osh, mainly elderly imams work, many of whom have not received compensation for their activities for many years. The youth, on the other hand, are not eager to move to rural areas due to low wages. The muftiate believes that the introduction of a commission for pilgrims will create conditions for attracting more qualified and motivated imams.

The proposal has been submitted to the Council of Ulema for verification of its compliance with Sharia norms.
