At the meeting of the Education Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, Saltanat Amanova emphasized that it is necessary to create the minimum required conditions before starting reforms in schools.

She pointed out that in a number of educational institutions, toilets are located outside and are in a deplorable state.

“Students have to leave the school to use the toilet, and there is nowhere to wash their hands: many institutions lack sinks, and where they do exist, there is no hot water. When will we solve these problems? Before embarking on large-scale reforms, we need to ensure physical comfort for children. This will help them better adapt psychologically. If we do not have basic conditions for using the toilet and washing hands, how can we expect success in reforming the education system?” the deputy asked.

In response, the Deputy Mayor of Bishkek, Victoria Mozgacheva, stated that all schools in the capital are equipped with indoor toilets.

“We carry out repairs on them annually, if necessary. As part of the ADB project, several educational institutions with outdoor toilets joined Bishkek, and this year we will complete the work on their renovation,” she added.

The deputy also asked the Deputy Minister of Education, Nadira Jusupekova, for information about the situation in the regions and requested precise data on the number of schools with indoor and outdoor toilets. The Deputy Minister promised to provide this information in writing.

Saltanat Amanova emphasized that reforms in education must begin with improving infrastructure.
