Starting from April 2026, a re-inspection for the presence of wastewater treatment facilities at commercial properties will begin in Issyk-Kul. This was announced on the air of "Birinchi Radio" by Azat Sagynov, the deputy director of the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service under the Ministry of Natural Resources.

According to him, these inspections have become more active in recent years.

“Last year, our inspectors discovered numerous recreation homes, boarding houses, and guest houses operating without wastewater treatment facilities. In some cases, they simply dig a pit and use it as a septic tank, after which the contents are pumped out by vacuum trucks. However, there are also responsible entrepreneurs who have installed three-stage treatment facilities that ensure a water purification level of 85-90%,” noted Sagynov.

The radio host, citing the head of the Environmental and Technical Supervision of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Kylchbek Tentimishov, reported that there are 1,198 tourist facilities registered in the Issyk-Kul region. Of these, only 180 have their own treatment facilities, and 196 are connected to a centralized sewage system. The remaining facilities use simple septic tanks, the efficiency of which raises questions.

It was previously reported that a mechanism is being developed in Kyrgyzstan for closing boarding houses that do not have wastewater treatment facilities.
