At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on March 5, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev urged the Presidential Administration to reconsider the necessity of obtaining permission for children to travel when one of the parents is not involved in their lives.

Bekeshev emphasized that some children face difficulties when traveling abroad. He cited the example of a woman living in Europe with her child, who has been unable to return to Kyrgyzstan for seven years due to blackmail from her ex-husband: he threatens to withhold consent for the child's departure and demands housing or money in exchange for his consent. "How far can blackmail go when one parent uses their consent as leverage?" Bekeshev questions. He also noted that some parents simply disappear, creating additional challenges for children who wish to participate in competitions or receive medical assistance abroad.

In response, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Almaz Raimbekov stated that this issue is often raised in citizens' appeals.

“This is indeed a complex topic. We are studying the UN's experience and working on finding solutions,” Raimbekov noted.
