Bishkek City Hall: Hourly Parking Will Encourage Drivers to Switch to Public Transport

The low cost of parking contributes to long-term vehicle standing

According to Kubanychbek Imanaliev, a specialist in the parking and standing department, the introduction of hourly parking fees in Bishkek may encourage drivers to use public transport. This statement was made on the air of "Birinchi Radio."

Imanaliev noted that the affordable prices, which are around 25 soms per day, lead motorists to leave their cars for extended periods—weeks and months.

"If the city council decides to introduce hourly payment, it will become economically unfeasible to leave cars. The first two hours may cost between 30 to 50 soms, and for each subsequent hour, drivers will have to pay 20 soms. As a result, some drivers will switch to public transport, and in the summer, to bicycles and scooters. There are many options, and this will significantly ease traffic congestion," said Imanaliev.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the city hall proposed to divide the city into different zones based on parking costs.
