In 2026, the UN announced a new humanitarian plan that includes the allocation of $23 billion to assist 87 million people worldwide.

About two thousand humanitarian organizations will participate in the implementation of this program, with more than 60% of them being local UN partners.

The Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, reported that in January, over 7 million people had already received assistance through 17 UN operations, including nearly 2 million in Sudan. If this level of support can be maintained each month, the goal of assisting 87 million people over the year will become achievable.

Currently, $5 billion has been allocated to implement the plan, and with pledges included, the total reaches $8.7 billion, which is more than a third of the required amount. Among the main donors are the USA, the European Commission, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Canada, Japan, Norway, Denmark, the UAE, Belgium, and Qatar.

However, the remaining funding shortfall exceeds $14 billion.
Fletcher also noted that military conflicts in the Middle East cost about $1 billion a day, and even a small portion of these expenses could significantly help many people.

He added that the humanitarian system is facing extremely difficult conditions: humanitarian workers are increasingly becoming targets of attacks. “This is a challenging period for humanitarian work. We are under constant pressure, facing resource shortages, but we are not willing to abandon our principles and mission. We cannot leave people who are counting on our help,” emphasized the coordinator.
