Orange dunes in the snow: frost hit the Sahara desert
Snow has fallen in the Sahara Desert, which is a true rarity for this region. According to reports from international news agencies, such precipitation has occurred only a few times in the last fifty years.

The unusual phenomenon was observed near the Algerian city of Ain Sefra, known as the "Gateway to the Desert." In March, the temperature here usually reaches +30 degrees, but due to a strong cyclone, it suddenly dropped to -2 degrees.

The snow cover blanketed the bright orange dunes, and local residents, as well as tourists, took the opportunity for outdoor activities, snowboarding and sledding down the snowy slopes.

In recent years, similar anomalies have been observed more frequently in Ain Sefra. Snow fell here in 2016, 2018, 2021, and 2022. Prior to that, for almost 40 years — since 1979 — snow had not been recorded in the region.
