According to the results of a new study published in the journal "Healthcare of Kyrgyzstan," there has been a slight decrease in the prevalence of viral hepatitis in the country compared to 2019.

Despite this, the incidence rate remains high: Kyrgyzstan continues to be among the countries with high endemicity of viral hepatitis.

The study, conducted in accordance with the protocols of the World Health Organization, involved 12,661 people, including residents aged 0 to 70 years and older. Of these, 37.6% were participants aged 0 to 29 years, 44.1% were aged 30 to 59 years, and 18.3% were over 60 years old.

During the analysis, 371 cases of viral hepatitis B were identified among adults, while among children aged 0 to 9 years, the positive results amounted to 0.66%.

The highest prevalence of hepatitis B was recorded in the city of Osh and Osh region at 4.09%, while the lowest rate was observed in the Talas region, which was 2.13%.

A high level of hepatitis B is also observed among people aged 30 to 60 years, while among children and adolescents under 19 years, the rates are lower. Experts attribute this data to the effectiveness of vaccination against hepatitis B, which has been carried out in Kyrgyzstan since 2001 and is included in the national vaccination schedule.
