It all started after her divorce from her husband. At that time, Cholpon already had an artistic education and work experience in Almaty. However, she needed to find a way to support herself.
“I thought about what I really wanted to do. The answer was obvious — kurak,” Cholpon shares.
“My first products were made from leftover fabrics,” she recounts. “It was a forced decision, as I didn't have enough funds. I would visit the markets at 'Dordoi' and ask the sellers for scraps. They generously gave me what they were about to throw away. I used these materials to complete my diploma project.”
Today, Cholpon purposefully works with patches and actively collaborates with designers, fashion houses, and sewing workshops.
