The situation with tuberculosis in Kyrgyzstan remains stable: although the incidence is decreasing, cases of the disease continue to be recorded. This was reported by Gulbara Ishenapysova, Deputy Minister of Health, at a recent press conference.

According to her data, more than 3,800 cases of the disease are registered annually in the republic, with up to 200 people dying from this illness.

“This indicates that we are facing a sanitary and epidemiological imbalance in the area of tuberculosis. Measures must be taken to eliminate this problem. One of the challenges remains early detection, as well as patients interrupting treatment for various reasons. Additionally, there are drug-resistant forms of tuberculosis. Migration, poverty, and other social factors also play a significant role,” she explained.

She also noted that the Ministry of Health has developed an action plan as part of the month dedicated to combating tuberculosis. This plan involves not only medical workers but also students, youth, public organizations, and educational institutions.

According to previously presented data, it was noted that by 2025, the expected incidence of tuberculosis is projected to be 52.1 cases per 100,000 population, with a mortality rate of 2.1 cases per 100,000.

The highest rates of incidence and mortality were recorded in Kyrgyzstan in 2001: at that time, the incidence was 168 cases per 100,000, and mortality reached 27 cases per 100,000.

However, compared to 2001, the incidence of tuberculosis has decreased almost threefold. Since 1996, five programs have been implemented in the country to combat tuberculosis.

World Tuberculosis Day is observed annually on March 24.
