In comparison, in January 2025, this figure was 143 cases.
The main factors contributing to infant mortality are related to conditions arising in the perinatal period. Of the total number of cases in January 2026, 80 infants (63 percent) died for this reason.
Twenty-four children (19 percent) died from congenital developmental anomalies, 13 children (10 percent) fell victim to respiratory diseases, and 4 children died from nervous system disorders. One death was caused by external factors, and another by an infectious disease. The causes of death for five children remain unknown.
As of the end of 2025, there is a decrease in infant mortality in Kyrgyzstan; however, maternal mortality, on the contrary, has increased.
The Ministry of Health plans reforms in the field of perinatal services by 2030. The key areas of these reforms will include:
- Improving the monitoring of pregnant women's conditions and patient routing;
- Revising antenatal care standards with an emphasis on the quality of medical assistance;
- Implementing modern technologies for prenatal screening;
- Creating a genetic laboratory;
- Developing family planning programs.
