The Russian fighter Islam Makhachev, who previously held the UFC champion title, shared his plans for the future. He noted that if he wins on November 16 at UFC 322 in New York against Australian Jack Della Maddalena, he would like to face Kamaru Usman, the former welterweight champion.

Makhachev highlighted Usman's achievements, emphasizing his status in the division: "After the fight with Jack, I think the next one will be Kamaru Usman. He has a record number of title defenses in the welterweight division, and he currently holds a high position," he stated in an interview with the YouTube channel Adin Live.

The bout between Makhachev and Della Maddalena will be a significant event at UFC 322, where Islam aims to regain his status as a title contender.

Kamaru Usman, whom Makhachev considers an ideal opponent, returned to the octagon in June, winning by unanimous decision against Joaquin Buckley at UFC on ESPN 69, confirming his place in the elite of the division.

The fight between Makhachev and Usman could become one of the most anticipated events of 2026 if both athletes maintain their positions after their upcoming bouts.
