On January 8, he attended the first semifinal match of the Spanish Supercup in Jeddah, where the teams "Barcelona" and "Athletic" faced off.
“I came with the flag of Kyrgyzstan, which I draped over myself. At the first checkpoint, they started asking me about the flag and its inscriptions. I explained that this is the flag of my country. After long discussions, the volunteers eventually let us through,” Adilet shares.
According to the Kyrgyzstani, there were three checkpoints on the way to the stands.
“At the second checkpoint, we were stopped again, intrigued by the flag, and in the end, they took it away. All equipment was also confiscated, including a lapel microphone for the phone. Everything was placed in a special block, and it could be retrieved at the exit,” he continues.
The Spanish Supercup is being held in Saudi Arabia for the sixth time.
As Adilet noted, the local organizers established a rule that only flags of the teams participating in the match and the flag of Saudi Arabia are allowed in the stadium.
“Although the stadium accommodated more than 60,000 spectators and we saw flags from other countries, there were not many of them. At the exit, I managed to retrieve my flag and lapel microphone without any issues,” Adilet concluded his story.
