On January 9, the youth national team of Kyrgyzstan (U-23) will play its second match in the Asian Cup, which is taking place in Saudi Arabia.

The team, led by Edmar Lacerda, will face the Vietnamese players.

In the first round, held on January 6, the Kyrgyz team lost to Saudi Arabia, while Vietnam secured a victory over Jordan.

At the youth level, these two opponents have met twice.

The first match took place at the Asian Games in Korea in 2014, when the teams faced off in the final round of the group stage. In that match, Vietnam won with a narrow score of 1-0, with the only goal scored from a penalty.

According to the rules of the Asian Games, a team can include three older players. In that match, Kyrgyzstan was represented by Valery Kashuba, Cholponbek Esenkul uulu, and Azamat Baymatov, as well as Valery Kichin, Farhat Musabekov, Kairat Jyrgalbek uulu, and Murolim Akhmedov.

The second match between the Olympic teams took place in 2023 at an international tournament in Qatar. The regular time ended in a 0-0 draw, and the Kyrgyz team finished the game with fewer players after Midin Kerezbekov was sent off. However, in the penalty shootout, the Kyrgyzstan team emerged victorious, winning decisively with a score of 5-4.
