Kyrgyzstan has presented its candidacy for the UN Security Council

As part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a special briefing was held to discuss the nomination of the Kyrgyz Republic as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the years 2027–2028.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the permanent representative of Kyrgyzstan to the SCO, Rahman Adanov, informed colleagues from other member states and secretariat staff about a joint appeal signed by the heads of Central Asian states on November 16, 2025, in Tashkent. This document contains a call for support of Kyrgyzstan's candidacy in the upcoming UN elections.

Adanov noted that the nomination of the Kyrgyz candidate symbolizes the region's desire to make a significant contribution to ensuring international peace and stability. He added that if elected successfully, Kyrgyzstan would play an active role in the UN Security Council, adhering to the principles of global security, sustainable development, and seeking solutions to current global challenges.

In addition, the permanent representative of Uzbekistan to the SCO, Saidkamol Agzamkhodjaev, spoke at the meeting, sharing the outcomes of the consultative meeting of the heads of Central Asian states that took place on November 16 in Tashkent.
