Kyrgyzstan is being promoted as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028

A briefing was held at the UN Headquarters in New York with the participation of permanent representatives from Central Asia, where Ulugbek Lapasov, representing Uzbekistan, shared the outcomes of the meeting of the heads of state of the region that took place in Tashkent on November 16, 2025. This event was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the briefing, participants discussed the appeal of the presidents of Central Asia to the member states of the UN, which calls for consideration of Kyrgyzstan's candidacy for the elections of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.
As Lapasov noted, the support for Kyrgyzstan's nomination for this position underscores the desire of the countries in the region to actively participate in international efforts to strengthen peace and security. In this regard, the leaders of Central Asia expressed a unified position in support of Kyrgyzstan's application, emphasizing the importance of its role in global processes.

Aida Kasymalieva, the permanent representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN, thanked the Central Asian states for their support, stating that such unity symbolizes the region's collective commitment to peace and constructive multilateral cooperation.

If Kyrgyzstan is elected, it will become a responsible and determined member of the Security Council, ready to work on enhancing international security and ensuring that the voices of all regions, including developing and small states, are heard and taken into account.
