As a result, over the week, the expenses for the minimum set of products have increased by 26 soms, reaching 6,532 soms.
Every week we monitor prices for the same set of products in one supermarket. Below is detailed information about which items we included in our basket and for what reasons.
Prices may vary depending on the supermarket and market. In stores, it is sometimes possible to find products on sale and with discounts.
Since the beginning of our observations in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 3,262 soms. Compared to the same period in 2024, it has risen by 165 soms, and since the beginning of this year — by 465 soms.
Bread remains the most affordable product in our basket. Prices for fresh vegetables and fruits have the greatest impact on the overall cost of the basket, which is why the price fluctuates.
Over the past year, the cost of the grocery basket has decreased by 743 soms. The lowest price was recorded on September 14 — 5,510 soms, while the highest cost was on April 13 — 7,018 soms.
The nutritional standards approved by the government back in 2009 prescribe that each citizen of the country should consume nine types of products monthly.
According to the established norms, each citizen should consume per month: 9 kg of bread products, 5 kg of meat, 8.2 kg of potatoes, 9 kg of vegetables, 10 kg of fruits and berries, 2 kg of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, as well as 200 grams of tea.

Based on these minimum standards, we assessed the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four, using prices from one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. Recently, many residents prefer to shop in large stores.
Of course, the calculations for food consumption are approximate and based on government standards. It should be noted that each person may have their own food preferences — some may not consume meat, while others may not like sugar. Therefore, our basket should not be perceived as an absolute truth. It is more of a social experiment from 24.kg.
Bread products include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family is average, so they choose apples and bananas for fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes for vegetables. Everything is strictly according to necessity, without excess.
