This year, the prices for carrots sold by local farmers have reached 50 soms per kilogram. The harvest is in its final stages, and a Turmush correspondent spoke with several farmers.
Shukhratbek Teshabaev from the village of Aral-Sai shares his experience: “For many years, I have been harvesting two crops from a plot of 40 hundredths. First, we plant potatoes, and then carrots — this has become our tradition. Even if the price is not particularly high, we continue to grow it. This year it turned out to be quite expensive; our neighbors were selling it for 50 soms per kilogram, and now the price fluctuates around 25–26 soms, which is also not too bad. Last year we sold carrots for 13–14 soms, so this year farmers can boast good prices. Last year, the rains complicated the harvest, but this year the weather conditions have been favorable. We have already completed the harvesting of the last rows,” he says.
The farmer managed to collect more than 10 tons of carrots. He emphasizes that the process requires a lot of labor: it is necessary to monitor irrigation, weeding, and the quality of the carrots. If tasty produce is grown, there are no issues with sales, and customers remain satisfied. An important aspect is also the selection of good seeds.
To date, carrots have been planted on an area of about 500 hectares in the Suzak district, and the total volume of the harvested crop is approximately 135,662 tons.
