An unusual situation occurred with Oreo cookie packaging in Kazakhstan, where a small QR code that was supposed to lead users to the official website unexpectedly redirected them to an online casino page. Details of this incident were reported by Kursiv.
Users began to report the problem on social media. On Oreo's official Instagram page, Kazakhstanis expressed their dissatisfaction. Some decided to test the QR code with their phones and found that instead of going to the brand's website, they were redirected to a gambling platform. This issue was observed on both small packages and large boxes of cookies.
A correspondent from Kursiv LifeStyle decided to find out the current situation with the QR code. Although the link to the online casino no longer opens, the page still has nothing to do with Oreo.
Now users are faced with a number of questionable offers, including "free iPhone 13," "eczema remedy," and VIN number vehicle check services, as well as "AI for business."
Representatives of Oreo Kazakhstan commented on this incident, stating that it was the result of a technical error and a hack of the QR code. The company said: "An incorrect QR code has been recorded on Oreo packages, leading to third-party resources. These links have no relation to Oreo, and the brand does not request personal information through such links. We are working to resolve the issue and strongly recommend temporarily not using QR codes on the packaging."
