Problems with receiving SMS messages necessary for registering accounts in the mentioned messengers were first noticed by users of the "In Touch" project, who urged their followers to confirm this information.
According to data presented by "Kод Дурова," Russian telecom operators received instructions to stop transmitting messages and calls with authorization codes for new Telegram and WhatsApp users, which effectively blocks their registration.
Despite this, some users continue to receive SMS from Telegram, but not all numbers can take advantage of this feature.
Earlier, on October 30, "Код Дурова" reported that Telegram began implementing a new feature that allows sending authorization codes through already registered users of the messenger. It is planned that one user will be able to send up to 100 SMS with codes per month.
Recall that Roskomnadzor began restricting the operation of the Telegram and WhatsApp messengers in August. Initially, audio and video calls were blocked, and then the services started experiencing interruptions, leading to some users facing difficulties accessing Telegram and WhatsApp.
