A meeting took place in Bishkek between Tilek Suimanov, head of Yandex Kyrgyzstan, and representatives of the media, where he discussed user safety issues and the company's collaboration with city authorities to improve the transportation environment.
Infrastructure and scooters as part of the urban system
Kicksharing has become an important element of the capital's transportation system: residents of Bishkek make about 250,000 trips on Yandex Go scooters every month. In more than 70% of cases, scooters are used not for entertainment, but for getting around the city, which helps reduce the load on the road network and decrease harmful emissions.
The issue of road safety depends not only on users but also on the city's readiness to integrate new modes of transport. In this regard, Yandex Kyrgyzstan offers solutions for developing infrastructure for individual mobility services (IMS). Suimanov noted that with the support of the city hall, the company is ready to install up to 300 scooter parking spots for free in pre-agreed locations. This will allow users to navigate not only via the app map but also see physical markings for parking in the city.
Additionally, the meeting discussed Yandex's proposal to create a single micromobility operator in Bishkek, which would coordinate the work of existing sharing services, establish common standards, and promote a culture of responsible scooter use. Such ideas have already been successfully implemented in other countries, such as Kazakhstan.
Safety priority in Yandex services
User safety is the company's main task. Anyone starting a trip on a scooter goes through a brief course on operating and parking rules. Scooters are equipped with a speed control module: in Bishkek, there are 12 zones where they come to a complete stop, and 17 zones with speed limits. Yandex is ready to work with the city hall to expand the number of such zones. Safe driving schools are also conducted, training both novice and experienced users.
In other Yandex services, safety is also emphasized. Couriers undergo training on traffic rules and use electric bicycles with speed limits. Serious violations result in disciplinary measures against them.
Tilek Suimanov also spoke about the technologies implemented in the taxi service. Automatic monitoring of speed and driving style detects speeding and unsafe maneuvers, helping to prevent accidents. In case of violations, various measures may be applied to drivers. The system also tracks deviations from the route, prolonged stops, and sudden braking. In suspicious situations, operators contact the passenger and driver to clarify the circumstances. The app features a "Safety" section that allows users to contact emergency services, reach support, or share their route with loved ones. Calls between passengers and drivers occur through the app, protecting their personal numbers. All trips are insured for up to 800,000 soms in case of an accident.
