Previously, from April 1, 2023, to April 1, 2026, a moratorium was already in effect in the reserve, introduced to protect the rare flower and improve infrastructure. The extension of the restrictions is due to the need to strengthen measures for the protection of this unique plant.
According to Baisalbek Ashirkulov, head of the Batken district forestry, closing the area will ensure more reliable protection and prepare it for the convenience of future visitors.
Turmush previously reported that the decision to impose the moratorium was based on a request from the Batken forestry dated March 27, 2023, which raised the issue of the necessity to protect the specially protected natural area and preserve the endemic flower Aigul.
The moratorium on visiting the reserve is in effect from April 1, 2023, to April 1, 2026.
Forestry staff have been instructed to strengthen control and implement measures to increase the population of the Aigul flower.
The area of the botanical reserve is 254 hectares. It was established in 1978, and the Aigul flower is included in the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan.

Every year in the Batken region, the flowering period of Aigul (Pentelium Eduardi) begins, which grows exclusively in this region and blooms for only 15-20 days a year. This flower can be found on the Aigul-Ttoo mountain.
It is also known as "Eduard's Fritillary." It was included in the Red Book of the USSR in 1978. The height of the plant can reach 1.5 meters, and the leaves are arranged along the stem.
Experts note that the sprouts of the "moon flower" appear only after seven years, and the first flower blooms another seven years later. Thus, each year adds one bright orange bud, allowing the age of the plant to be determined by the number of flowers.
