The situation with the sharp increase in prices for chicken eggs in certain regions of Kyrgyzstan has attracted the attention of the antimonopoly service, which has initiated an operational check. This was reported by Oksana Goryanova, head of the analysis department of the agency, in an interview with the radio.

Uran Chekirbaev, head of the food security department of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, previously noted that the rise in egg prices is partly due to a decrease in the number of laying hens last year.

According to Goryanova, the antimonopoly service recorded a significant increase in egg prices about a week ago. In Bishkek, the price for a dozen eggs increased by approximately 10 soms, while in some regions, such as Osh and Batken, the increase was more than 20 soms.

In response to these changes, the agency began analyzing the market situation, organizing meetings with representatives of the Poultry Farmers Association and the Ministry of Agriculture. Discussions revealed that the sharp price increase was not directly caused by higher wholesale prices from producers.

Goryanova emphasized that if poultry farms did raise prices, it was due to increased costs for vaccination, packaging, logistics, and fuel and lubricants. According to the agency, the main price increase is observed at the stage of product supply.

She also noted that several intermediaries may be involved in the sales process, which affects the final cost for consumers. In this regard, the antimonopoly service sent warnings to the Poultry Farmers Association and poultry farms, demanding a review of the pricing policy at the wholesale supply level.

Goryanova added that prices for eggs in retail chains remain more transparent, while in markets, the cost often turns out to be higher. Currently, there is no shortage of products in the market; minor fluctuations in supply are related to the vaccination of birds and the renewal of the laying hen population.
