The weather conditions will deteriorate sharply: snowfalls are possible, with heavy precipitation in some areas. Wet snow is forecasted to stick to trees and wires, as well as the appearance of fog. There will be snow drifts and ice on the roads, and snowdrifts may occur in mountainous areas. The strengthening of the western wind may reach 15–20 m/s in certain places.
The Republican Center for Health Promotion offers several recommendations to prevent hypothermia and frostbite:
- Try to minimize the time spent outdoors.
- If you feel cold, immediately go into a warm place, such as a store, café, or pharmacy.
- Do not go out into the cold on an empty stomach or when tired.
- Before leaving home, be sure to eat hot food and drink hot tea, preferably with lemon or honey, at least half an hour before going out.
- Avoid smoking in the cold, as it leads to blood vessel spasms and reduced blood flow to the extremities.
- Do not consume alcohol, as it creates a false sense of warmth and accelerates heat loss from the body due to blood vessel dilation.
Before going outside, it is important to choose the right clothing:
- Shoes should be warm, not tight, with a good insole and high sole.
- For hands, mittens made of windproof materials with fur inside are preferable to gloves.
- Protect your cheeks and chin with a scarf.
- A headwear is mandatory for both adults and children.
- In cold and windy weather, exposed areas of skin should be smeared with a protective cream, not a moisturizing one.
- Dress in layers, choosing loose clothing to ensure normal blood circulation. Outerwear should be water-repellent.
