The specialists of the Republican Center for Health Promotion strongly recommend that citizens take precautions during the winter period and dress appropriately before going outside to prevent hypothermia.
According to the center, hypothermia occurs when the body temperature drops to 35°C and below. This condition poses a serious danger to children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses. Young children have not yet developed thermoregulation mechanisms, while in the elderly and sick, this function may be impaired.
According to doctors, hypothermia weakens the body's immune defenses and increases the likelihood of acute respiratory diseases.
To minimize the risk of hypothermia, specialists recommend:
- choosing footwear suitable for the season, preferring warm and waterproof models;
- using mittens made of windproof fabric to protect the hands;
- covering the cheeks and chin with a scarf;
- always wearing a hat;
- in cold and windy weather, applying protective cream to exposed areas of skin;
- dressing in several layers and loosely to ensure good blood circulation;
- preferring natural fabrics such as wool and cotton;
- choosing outerwear made from water-repellent materials.
