The problem of antimicrobial resistance represents one of the most serious threats to healthcare.
Improper use of antibiotics can lead to the following consequences:
- the development of drug-resistant microorganisms;
- complications in treating infections, requiring more potent medications;
- an increase in complications and fatalities worldwide.
Experts emphasize that "antibiotics are intended to kill bacteria or inhibit their reproduction. However, they are ineffective against viruses, such as ARVI or influenza."
To use antibiotics effectively, the following recommendations should be followed:
- take them only as prescribed by a doctor;
- complete the entire course of treatment;
- avoid self-medication;
- do not request antibiotics "just in case."
