According to the Ministry of Health, between 10,000 and 12,000 newborns are born prematurely in Kyrgyzstan each year. This information was announced on November 17, a day dedicated to premature children.

This day is celebrated in Kyrgyzstan for the tenth time and takes place at the National Center for the Protection of Motherhood and Childhood. As part of the event, children who were born prematurely and discharged from the neonatal pathology department over the past 10-15 years are invited.

Since 2004, the country has been using criteria for the registration of newborns recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). This allows all children to have equal access to medical care from the moment of their birth.

Premature children are defined as those born before the 37th week of pregnancy. Such newborns typically weigh less than 2500 grams and require special care and monitoring due to their physiological characteristics.

According to the World Organization, globally, between 6% and 8% of all children are born prematurely. The survival rate of these infants worldwide is increasing thanks to modern technologies, state-of-the-art equipment, and international standards. Kyrgyzstan continues to improve services in the field of perinatal medicine by training specialists and expanding access to high-tech medical care, as reported by the ministry's information.
