In Kyrgyzstan, more than 15 thousand cases of HIV have been registered

Of these, 60% are in Bishkek and the Chui region

According to the Republican Center for Strengthening Health and Mass Communication, as of October 1, there have been 15,183 registered cases of HIV in the country.

The majority of cases (over 50%) are observed among people aged 20 to 39, who are socially active. More than 60% of all registered cases are noted in Bishkek and the Chui region, with the primary mode of transmission being sexual.

“Understanding your HIV status is the first step towards successful prevention and treatment. We recommend everyone to get tested and take advantage of available medical resources and support,” quotes Umutkan Chokmorova, director of the Republican Center for the Control of Hematogenous Viral Hepatitis and HIV, RCUZ.

With adequate therapy and a low (undetectable) viral load, HIV is not transmitted sexually.

Every year on December 1, the world observes World AIDS Day.
