Today, November 28, a meeting was held at the Osh Regional Center for the Control of Viral Hepatitis Transmitted Through Blood and Human Immunodeficiency Virus, dedicated to World AIDS Day, which is observed on December 1.

Representatives from the media, NGOs, students, and doctors participated in the event.

According to the acting director of the Osh Regional Center, Sabyrzhan Tashpolotov, there are currently 2,095 people registered in Osh Region, and 1,476 people in the city of Osh with HIV infection.

“Many people are unaware of their illness and do not get tested. To determine their actual number, the official figure should be multiplied by four. Our problem is that people do not seek help in a timely manner or come too late. Last year, 60 cases were registered in the city of Osh over 10 months, and this year there have been 64. In the region, there were 89 cases last year, and 97 this year. Among pregnant women in Osh and the region, 8 cases have been identified. Over 10 months, 95% of the infections occurred through sexual contact.

One of the issues can be identified as migrants. In the region, 74% of those registered, and in the city, 64% are citizens who are in migration. Young people have a low level of awareness about the infection. We will work on solving this problem together with the city administration. A mobile clinic has been established in the territorial administration of “Manas-Ata” and has been operating since November 24. Full confidentiality is maintained there. On December 1, the mobile clinic will be located at the ethnographic center “Alymbek-Datka,” where a final event will be held,” he said.

According to the data, this year, a total of 9 people have died from HIV infection in the city and region of Osh.
