According to data from the Republican Center for Health Strengthening and Mass Communication, as of October 1, 2025, there have been 15,183 cases of HIV identified in Kyrgyzstan. This figure confirms a serious problem in the country.

More than 60% of the registered cases are among people aged 20 to 39, highlighting that the main demographic is youth actively participating in social life. The highest number of cases is observed in Bishkek and the Chui region. The primary mode of virus transmission is sexual, emphasizing the need for open discussions about sexual health, responsible behavior, and caring for one's own future.

Despite efforts, late detection of HIV continues in the country, leading to precious time lost for starting treatment and preserving health. Nevertheless, HIV testing has become accessible to everyone: it can be done quickly, confidentially, and for certain categories of citizens, free of charge.

“Understanding your HIV status is the first step towards prevention and treatment. We strongly recommend everyone to get tested and take advantage of available medical resources and support,” quotes Umutkan Chokmorova, director of the Republican Center for the Control of Hematogenic Viral Hepatitis and HIV.

Early initiation of treatment allows people living with HIV to lead full and long lives, build families, have healthy children, and make plans for the future.

With adequate treatment and suppressed (undetectable in blood) viral load, HIV is not transmitted sexually.
Every year on December 1, the world observes World AIDS Day.
