This year, the focus is on youth and the importance of informing about HIV, as well as sexual and reproductive health, which is directly related to the birth of healthy children. Every young person must be aware of their responsibility for health and be ready to make informed decisions: knowing how to protect themselves and their partner, where to get tested, and what modern methods exist for preventing the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
As of October 1, 2025, there have been 15,183 registered cases of HIV in the Kyrgyz Republic. More than 60% of these cases are among people aged 20 to 39 years — young and active citizens. The majority of identified cases are observed in Bishkek and the Chui region, with sexual transmission being the primary route of the virus. This underscores the need for open and honest conversations about sexual health and safe behavior.
Unfortunately, late detection of HIV still occurs in the country, leading to a loss of precious time for starting treatment and preserving health. However, HIV testing has become available to everyone: quickly, confidentially, and free for certain groups of citizens.
"Knowing your HIV status is the first step towards prevention and treatment. We urge everyone to get tested and take advantage of available resources to receive medical assistance and support," noted Umutkan Zhusupovna Chokmorova, director of the RCCHVH and HIV.Timely initiation of treatment allows people living with HIV to lead full lives, create families, have healthy children, and make plans for the future. With effective therapy and suppressed viral load, HIV is not transmitted sexually — this is the principle of "U=U" (Undetectable = Untransmittable).
As part of the campaign, lectures, seminars, outreach actions of mobile clinics, and informational events will be organized to increase knowledge about HIV, testing, and modern treatment. Participation in these events will help contribute to the fight against the HIV epidemic and promote health preservation. We strive to create a culture of care for sexual and reproductive health in society, so that young people choose a healthy lifestyle," added representatives of the organization.
