605 cases of HIV in the Issyk-Kul region — doctors remind about the importance of early diagnosis
Unfortunately, 8 people who contracted HIV this year have died, among whom 4 women were pregnant.
According to Ogoeva, the increase in the number of detected cases compared to the previous year is due to intensified efforts in population screening. The main goal of these activities is to identify infections at early stages and prevent their spread. This initiative focuses on pregnant women, patients with clinical indications, and those admitted to hospitals. A mobile clinic is also actively used for diagnostics.
The first case of HIV in the Issyk-Kul region was registered in 2002. Since then, the total number of infected individuals has reached 605, of which 384 are men, 221 are women, and 9 are children.
Currently, 357 people are receiving treatment with antiretroviral drugs. The doctor noted that early diagnosis and the initiation of therapy play a key role in preventing the transmission of the virus both to partners and from mother to child.
Modes of transmission of the infection:
Of the total number of infected (605 people), 493 were infected through sexual contact;
84 — through injection methods;
9 cases — transmission from mother to child.
Since the registration of the infection, 106 people have died.
“Currently, information campaigns aimed at HIV prevention and explaining modes of transmission are being conducted in various regions of the area. Special lectures are being held. The mobile clinic is already actively working in the region and is currently located in the Ak-Suu district. On December 1, it will be situated in front of the Central Department Store in Karakol, and everyone will be able to take an express test to check their health,” she added.
