In an interview on "Birinchi Radio," the head of the Department for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiological Surveillance of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dinagul Otorbaeva, spoke about possible complications arising after influenza and ARVI. She also emphasized that self-medication can be dangerous and urged people to consult doctors at the Family Medicine Centers at the first symptoms.

According to the doctor, complications can develop not only during the illness but also after infection. People with weakened immune systems are at risk of encountering bronchitis or pneumonia. If a patient already has chronic diseases, the virus can worsen their condition. Otorbaeva noted that sometimes patients forget about the initial viral infection, focusing instead on their chronic ailments.

Viral infections pose particular danger to young children, who cannot clearly articulate their symptoms. Delayed medical attention can lead to serious consequences, such as brain swelling or seizures.

Risk groups, according to Otorbaeva, include pregnant women, children with frequent illnesses, elderly people, and those with chronic conditions.

It is worth noting that as of the 49th week (from December 1 to 5), there were 42,561 registered cases of ARVI and influenza in the country. This is a 15.3% increase compared to the previous week, which recorded 37,066 cases. Of the total number of patients, 72.1% are children under 14 years old (15,029 cases).

Considering the seven million population of Kyrgyzstan, as Otorbaeva emphasized, 42.5 thousand cases of influenza and ARVI are not critical. Every year, there is an increase in respiratory infections during the autumn-winter period.
