The head of the Department for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiological Surveillance of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dinagul Otorbaeva, noted on the air of "Birinchi Radio" that for a population of seven million people, 42,500 cases of illness is a relatively small number.

From December 1 to 5, the republic registered 42,561 cases of ARVI and influenza, which is 15.3% more compared to the previous week when 37,066 cases were recorded.

Otorbaeva emphasized: "There is no need to panic, as we always observe an increase in respiratory infections during the autumn-winter period. This year is no exception. It is worth noting that possibly due to increased awareness of the disease, more people are turning to doctors, which leads to an increase in statistics."

She also reported that among the sick, 72.1% are children under 14 years old. "This does not mean that adults do not get sick. In fact, adults are also susceptible to illnesses; it's just that children are more often infected by parents who bring viruses home from work or the street," Otorbaeva added.

The specialist noted that in conditions of rising morbidity, many people may not seek medical help. She explained that since October, a number of countries, including Kyrgyzstan, have seen an increase in cases of respiratory viral infections, which is associated with the cold season that promotes the spread of viruses.

Starting in October, there is an active spread of various viruses, such as adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, and rhinovirus. "It cannot be said that this is something new, as similar outbreaks occur every year. At the end of November, and a bit earlier this year, influenza joins respiratory infections, which has different strains. Currently, influenza A H3N2 is registered in 96-97% of cases. In addition, sporadic cases of influenza A H1N1 and isolated cases of influenza B have been recorded over the past two weeks. Furthermore, sporadic cases of COVID-19 remain," Otorbaeva concluded.
