“We are pleased to announce His Excellency Elbegdorj Tsakhia — Deputy Chairman of the IDU and the 4th President of Mongolia — as the honorary speaker at the IDU Forum 2025 in Washington,” noted the International Democratic Union.
“President Elbegdorj has actively supported democratic institutions, market reforms, environmental protection, and the rule of law throughout his career. His unwavering leadership in the IDU underscores his steadfast commitment to strengthening freedom and democracy worldwide.”
The International Democratic Union expressed hope that Elbegdorj's presence at the Forum would provide a unique opportunity to hear his visionary ideas during the meeting scheduled for December 2-4 in Washington, D.C.
The International Democratic Union (IDU) is an international association of right-wing political parties encompassing conservative, liberal-conservative, and Christian-democratic ideologies. The Democratic Party of Mongolia is a member.
IDU was founded in 1983 by a group of leading conservative politicians, including UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, US Vice President George H.W. Bush, and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, to coordinate political action and share experiences on international issues. Since 2018, the organization has been led by former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
The IDU headquarters is located in Oslo and includes several regional branches, such as the European People's Party, as well as the International Youth and Women's Democratic Unions.
Among IDU members, one can find numerous conservative and Christian-democratic parties, including the Union for the People's Movement, the Christian Democratic Union, and the Conservative Party of the UK, as well as non-European forces such as the Republican Party of the USA and the Conservative Party of Canada.
