According to The Telegraph, citing declassified materials, the CIA planned for Churchill to become one of the leading figures of "Radio Free Europe," which at that time was funded by the American intelligence agency and broadcast to Eastern European countries, including the Soviet Union. In 1958, the radio station was preparing special programs to mark the 75th anniversary of Karl Marx's death.

The publication emphasizes that American intelligence wanted to capitalize on the growing revisionist sentiments in the USSR, which were associated with a departure from traditional Marxism-Leninism. The programs were intended to be organized in such a way as to "undermine trust in any interpretation of Marxism" and encourage "heretical thinking" among listeners.

In CIA documents, Churchill is mentioned as one of the potential hosts of the project; however, it is not specified which particular program he might have been offered. Staff from the CIA's special unit in Munich were planning to send invitations to several candidates, among whom was the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

There is no confirmation that Churchill accepted this offer. In 1958, he declined a trip to Washington due to health reasons, which, according to The Telegraph, could have been one of the reasons why the initiative was never realized.
