For the first time in Kyrgyzstan! "Carmina Burana" premiere of the stage cantata by Carl Orff
The premiere of the famous choral work of world classical music, Carmina Burana, will take place, and for the first time, the audience will be presented with the choral masterpiece of Carl Orff – the stage cantata "Carmina Burana," performed by more than 200 artists of the choir of the republic.

Carl Orff "Carmina Burana" (cantata)

The intriguing title "Carmina Burana" translates from Latin as "Bavarian Songs." The source of the texts for this composition was a medieval manuscript found in the early 19th century in a Benedictine monastery in the Bavarian Alps.
Composer Carl Orff left the original text of the 13th-century manuscript collection intact. He selected 24 poems about the fickleness of fate, spring nature, and love, as well as drinking songs and satirical verses, along with several hymnic stanzas. All the poems were written by vagantes, wandering medieval poets who celebrated earthly joys, glorified love, wine, and ancient gods, and mocked hypocritical church morality.
Orff defined the genre of his work as "Secular songs for singers and choir accompanied by instruments with a stage presentation." "Carmina Burana" is not a narrative drama but a static theater of living pictures. The composition is based on the allegory of the Wheel of Fortune, the goddess of fate. The choral prologue of Orff's cantata "Fortuna, Empress of the World" is repeated unchanged at the end of the work (No. 25, epilogue), which evidently symbolizes the complete turn of the wheel. Between the prologue and the epilogue are three parts of the cantata: "In Spring," "In the Tavern," and "Love's Pleasures."

O, Fortuna,
like the moon
you are fickle,
always creating
or destroying;
you disrupt the course of life,
sometimes oppressing,
sometimes uplifting,
and reason cannot comprehend you;
what is poverty,
what is power —
everything is fleeting, like ice.
