Today, search and rescue services discovered 18 additional bodies at the site of the tragic fire in Hong Kong, bringing the total number of victims to 146. This information was provided by the South China Morning Post, citing data from a local police representative.
The blaze occurred on Wednesday in the Wang Fuk Court residential complex, which consists of eight high-rise buildings located in the Tai Po area, known as the New Territories of Hong Kong. Of all the buildings, only one was unaffected, while the other seven were engulfed in flames.
The fire spread rapidly through the bamboo scaffolding that was being used for cosmetic repairs. This complex houses around 2,000 apartments, where approximately 4,000 people reside. Currently, there is no information about any injured Russian citizens.
According to the press secretary of the Russian consulate general in Hong Kong, Consul Ekaterina Bogucharskaya, Russian diplomats are closely monitoring the situation.
This incident has become the deadliest fire in a residential building in the city's history.
