Massive fire in Hong Kong extinguished, death toll reached 128

Today, the authorities of Hong Kong announced the completion of the fight against a multi-day fire that broke out in the Wang Fuk Court residential complex.

The fire started on November 26 in a building that housed about 4,600 people. The causes of the incident remain unknown, but it is believed that the rapid spread of the flames was facilitated by foam window frames and a malfunctioning fire alarm system, which was absent in all eight blocks.

As a result of the tragedy, at least 128 people died, 79 were injured, and the identities of 89 victims are still unknown. In connection with the incident, three individuals responsible for the repair work in the complex have been arrested.

This tragedy has sparked widespread public outcry and criticism of building safety standards in Hong Kong. In the coming days, the police will begin inspecting the buildings to collect evidence, and the investigation will last several weeks.
