In connection with the incident, the Hong Kong police have arrested three individuals suspected of involuntary manslaughter.
The arrested are men aged between 52 and 68, working for a construction company that was involved in repairs at this complex. Two of them are company executives, while the third is a consulting engineer.
According to authorities, materials lacking fire-resistant properties were found on the external walls of the buildings. "We have reason to believe that the negligence of the responsible individuals at the company was the cause of this tragic incident and contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, leading to numerous casualties," the police statement said.
The fire occurred on November 26 in the high-rise residential complex Wang Fuk Court.
