According to "Tengizchevroil," production was halted as a precautionary measure. The company's statement indicated that the decision was related to issues affecting some power supply systems at the facility.
Earlier, "KazMunayGas," the state company, reported a fire that occurred on January 18. The fire initially broke out in the transformer of turbine GT-9.3 at GTES-4, followed by a fire in the transformer of GT-9.5 at the same station. Both incidents were successfully extinguished, and there were no injuries. The causes of the incident are currently being investigated.
Tengiz is Kazakhstan's largest oil and gas field, located in the Atyrau region, approximately 350 km southeast of the city of Atyrau. The Korolev field is located just 20 km northeast of Tengiz. Both fields are operated by "Tengizchevroil," in which 50% of the shares are owned by Chevron, 25% by Exxon Mobil, 20% by KazMunayGas (a subsidiary of Samruk-Kazyna), and 5% by the Russian company Lukoil.
The total recoverable oil reserves at the Tengiz and Korolev fields amount to 1.4 billion tons, equivalent to 11.5 billion barrels. The majority of the exported oil from "Tengizchevroil" is transported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). However, due to damage to the infrastructure of the marine terminal in Southern Ozerievka (near Novorossiysk), part of the oil is currently being redirected to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline.
