Reuters learned where Kazakhstan will redirect oil after attacks on the CPC

After recent attacks on the marine terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), Kazakhstan has decided to redirect its oil export flows through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. This was reported by Reuters, citing several industry sources.

According to the information, the volume of oil supplies through BTC in December is expected to reach 188,000 tons, which is 30% more compared to November figures. Of this amount, 170,000 tons will come from the Tengiz field, and 18,000 tons from Kashagan.

However, it should be noted that the capacity of the Aktau port and the quality requirements for oil create limitations for increasing supply volumes through BTC. It is worth recalling that more than 80% of Kazakhstan's oil is exported through CPC.

At the end of November, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan announced the need for an urgent redirection of export flows to alternative routes due to a drone attack on CPC, which damaged the offshore mooring device VPU-2.

The attack occurred on the night of November 29. The CPC press service reported that further operation of VPU-2 is impossible, which led to the suspension of loading operations and the diversion of tankers. Fortunately, no personnel were injured, and no oil leaks into the Black Sea were recorded. Resumption of shipments will only be possible after the threats from UAVs and drones are eliminated.

It should be noted that CPC facilities have previously been subjected to attacks by drones and unmanned boats. For example, on February 17, 2025, the "Kropotkinskaya" pumping station was attacked by seven UAVs, and its restoration was completed in May of the same year.

In September 2025, as a result of a daytime attack by Ukrainian drones on Novorossiysk, the city office of JSC "CPC-R" was damaged, resulting in two employees sustaining injuries of varying severity.

Finally, on November 25, 2025, the administrative building of the CPC marine terminal was again hit by a drone strike, which also led to the suspension of cargo operations at the offshore mooring devices.
