According to The Independent, this week two cases of the disease were confirmed, followed by the identification of three new cases. Among the infected are a doctor, a nurse, and a healthcare worker.

A representative from West Bengal's health department reported that the condition of one of the infected nurses has improved; however, the patient remains in serious condition. Both patients are receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

The World Health Organization classifies the Nipah virus as a high-risk pathogen. Currently, there are no effective medications against this virus. Bats are considered likely carriers, and infection can also occur through contaminated fruits.

Symptoms of the disease include fever, headaches, muscle pain, vomiting, and sore throat. In severe cases, inflammation of the brain may occur, potentially leading to coma within just two days. According to WHO data, the mortality rate for Nipah virus infection can range from 40% to 75%.
