In the Jekendi area, located in the Chon-Alai district of the Osh region, you can find four small summer pastures (жайлоо).

Local historian Cholponbay Nazarali uulu recounts that these summer pastures were named in honor of the four wives of a wealthy man who once lived in the village of Karamyk.

According to him, the wealthy man divided his lands among his wives and gave each plot a name reflecting its owner.

“The wealthy man had four wives, and his yurt was located in the area of Bosogo. He placed each of his wives in separate locations. The summer pasture for the eldest wife was called ‘Kary’ (which means ‘aged’), for the most beautiful wife — ‘Ak-Manday’ (which translates to ‘white-faced’), for the cunning one — ‘Sary-Kiyik’, and for the youngest — ‘Tokol’ (which translates to ‘younger’), despite the fact that the eldest was alive. Thus, each of the wives lived on her own summer pasture,” shares the historian.

Cholponbay noted that the residents of the village of Karamyk settled on the summer pasture of Bughu-Bash, located near the rock ‘Shumkar’, where golden eagles nest.

“There are four plots on the summer pasture of Bughu-Bash. Local fishermen often found deer antlers in the water, which gave this place its name — Bughu-Bash (literally ‘deer head’). Currently, the deer antlers are displayed in the museum of the V.I. Lenin school. Bughu-Bash is considered one of the largest summer pastures, situated at an altitude of 4,700 meters above sea level. Rising behind it is the rock ‘Shumkar’, which has a height of 6,000 meters. This rock is home to large predatory birds,” adds Ch. Nazarali uulu.
